Brad Cloepfil elected to the National Academy in New York

Jul 21, 2015

In July, Brad Cloepfil, along with 18 other esteemed artists and architects, was elected to the National Academy in New York City. Founded in 1825, the Academy exists to promote the fine arts in America, honor outstanding achievement and provide a forum for instruction and dialogue among leading practitioners. Today, the National Academy operates a museum and school from its historic location on Fifth Avenue, opposite Central Park. Notable members include Thomas Cole, Winslow Homer, Louise Bourgeois, Frank Gehry, I.M. Pei, Robert Rauschenberg and Cindy Sherman.

Election as an Academician is a thorough and substantive process, which involves the nomination by a current member, as well as research and discussion by the Academy’s living honorees. Bruce Fowle, president of the National Academy, stated that “the election of this year’s artists and architects is in recognition of their immense influence on the American cultural conversation, as well as of the profound contributions each will continue to make in the years to come."

The 2015 group includes Katherine Bradford, James Cutler, Nick Cave, Mary Miss and John Newman. A formal induction ceremony will take place on October 27th of this year.
