NYC Loft
Back to index

The NYC Loft is a 13,000 s.f. primary residence and guest suite that occupies the top three floors and roof of an historic building in Lower Manhattan. While maintaining the integrity and continuity of the building’s exterior detailing, the design unifies the formerly separate floor levels by carving a series of voids and interior garden courts into the body of the building. Within this new and open interior landscape, the design introduces a continuous cast-aluminum surface that visually and materially weaves together the diverse levels and living spaces. The loft is also the site of a series of site-specific artist installations commissioned by the homeowner, including a piece by Doug Aitken—three mirrored, kaleidoscopic light shafts that gather and recombine fragments of the surrounding city and two art installations by Paula Hayes—the Courtyard Garden and the West Terrace Garden
